Letter from Mason
Hello my name is Mason
I am a six-year-old first grader at Ashland Elementary in Manassas Va. I am collecting Toys for the children of Haiti. I am asking all of my family, friends, and classmates to help me get toys to send to the children in Haiti so they can have something to play with and be happy during this sad time. I am sending all of my toys that I do not play with anymore and buying some other new toys to send them. Please help me make the children of Haiti happy with toys.
Please help me help the children of Haiti.

What happened in Haiti?
A massive earthquake struck Haiti just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 12, about 10 miles southwest of Port-au-Prince, the country's capital. The quake was the worst in the region in more than 200 years. A preliminary assessment from Haiti's government put the body count at 150,000. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake.
The day after the quake, Haiti's president, René Préval, called the destruction "unimaginable.'' The quake left the country in shambles, without electricity or phone service.
The earthquake caused major damage to Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and other settlements in the region. Many notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged or destroyed, including the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building, the Port-au-Prince Cathedral, and the main jail.
